The King of Prayers

The King of Prayers appears at the end of the Avatamsaka Sutra (Flower Ornament Sutra). The Prayer is a vast expression of the Bodhisattva aspiration and encompasses myriad prayers of virtue and aspiration within it. Reciting it or listening to it with true sincerity can generate immense merit, purify obscurations, and ensure progress toward enlightenment for oneself and others.

The Sutra of Golden Light- Chapter 4

Chapter Four of the Sutra of the Sublime Golden Light is the heart of this sutra. It focuses on purification through confession. It teaches the importance of reflection, honesty, and humility when considering our past behavior. It also teaches us the benefit of aspiration and devotion to the Triple Gem and to benefiting living beings.

You, whose mind is none other than that of Shakyamuni Buddha, the World-Honored One; are a repository of living treasure for all beings to delight in!

In nirmanakaya form, You came into this world to correct what was upside down. In an unfortunate century filled with confusion, untold living beings were liberated.

Returning to sambhogakaya form of great bliss and power, You teach those with affinity for your voice and they receive sublime understanding. Thus, our hearts are filled with inspiration and deep respect.

Through the sound of your vajra voice and our penetration of meanings, may the single essence of the 84,000 dharmas which cure worldlings’ ills be realized!

So, with all sincerity, I prostrate and offer gratitude from the depths of my heart and pray- may those who’s conditions have not matured or who hear but cannot be taught,

Be compassionately held and guided to such a one as yourself, now or in the future, that their three karmas may enter yoga and realize the fruit of true liberation. May my eyes never leave their suffering until auspiciousness prevails.
